PhD (Agriculture and Forestry), doc., Professor, University of Helsinki, Department of Agricultural Sciences

Laura studies soil technology methods for reducing the environmental load of field husbandry and improving the efficiency of plant nutrient use in order to make nutrient cycles more closed.

Prof., DSc (Tech), doc. LUT University

My research and teaching includes fields that deal with overall energy efficiency in manufacture- and assembly-friendly production and in choices that support the sustainable development of structural materials once the functional requirements of the application have been identified.

In my teaching, I seek in particular to highlight the importance of the R4 principle in material selection for the solving of machine design problems.

Yksikkö:
HiskiShow, video filming and editing

I filmed and edited the circular economy videos. I am a video production entrepreneur and I graduated from the LUT energy technology programme in 2012. I got to see and hear a lot of interesting things about the circular economy world! Many thanks to all the interviewees!

Professor, Dr., LUT University, Sustainability Science,

Helena leads a research group and develops education in sustainability science. The group strives for understanding preconditions, incentives and solutions for returning to within the planetary boundaries while securing nutrition and energy from local to global scales. Circular and sharing economy and co-creation within science and with actors from public, private and civil society sectors are among keys to such a sustainability transformation.

Yksikkö:
DSc (Tech), University Teacher, LUT University, School of Energy Systems, Department of Mechanical Engineering

My teaching work is primarily composed of subjects relating to technical design, machine design and mechanics. Both in my teaching and teaching development work, one important source of inspiration is the practical inclusion of the diverse needs of the individual, the economy and the environment in the choices and decisions made during the design process.

Cooperating with different kinds of people enriches both work and free time. In my free time, I can be found in the birdwatching tower or on the volleyball court – or just hanging around.

Yksikkö:
MA (Phil), MSc in Environmental Technology, Research Assistant, LUT University, Sustainability Science

Laura has produced the introduction, been involved in planning the technical cycles section, and handled general course-related matters together with Sanni Väisänen.

In her free time, Laura is most likely to be found in the forest either orienteering, running or mushroom picking.

Yksikkö:
Research Assistant, University of Eastern Finland, Social Geography

Sonja has been involved in creating the course’s transport and sharing economy section together with Jukka Sihvonen and Professor Rauno Sairinen.

She is interested in the relationship between people and nature and in social environmental research. In her free time, she enjoys nature, being with her friends, and films.

PhD (Agriculture and Forestry), University Teacher, University of Helsinki, Department of Agricultural Sciences

Hannu teaches and researches agricultural energy technology. In his work, he seeks to advance energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy in agriculture.

In his free time, Hannu tries to keep old agricultural buildings standing and enjoys clearing forest and chopping wood. The summer cottage’s solar power system has to be upgraded and tuned as new electricity consumers turn up.

PhD, University of Helsinki, INAR / Department of Forest Sciences

Terhi has researched carbon cycling in soil, lakes and rivers and is currently working on creating research infrastructure by developing a network of stations for long-term monitoring of the environment. In addition to ecology-related matters, Terhi also dances, studies French, and enjoys being outside. Terhi participated in the brainstorming, design and implementation of the “In the Forest” component of the forest section of the course.

PhD, University of Helsinki

Laura is a meteorologist at the University of Helsinki and coordinates the national development project for climate and sustainability teaching in universities. She has also put together the online courses Ilmasto.nyt (Climate.now) and Leadership for sustainable change, which are open to all.

MSc (Social Sciences), LUT University, Sustainability Science

Tuuli his working on her doctoral dissertation which relates to the challenges of sustainable urban transport, and examines in particular personal emissions trading and the role of the citizen consumer as part of sustainable urban development. She is an economic sociologist by training, and in her research work has specialised in ecological and ethical consumption and the role of consumption as part of sustainability change. Her research focuses on the social preconditions for sustainability change, including consideration of societal structures, well-being perspectives and the ambiguous meaning of consumption.

With the Kiertotalous.NYT (Circular economy NOW) course, she has been involved in producing the teaching materials for the sharing economy.

Prof., University of Eastern Finland

Rauno Sairinen is Professor of Environmental Policy at the University of Eastern Finland and also Scientific Director of the LYY Institute. He has led the sociological mining research group within LYY (www.uef.fi/web/serm). Sairinen’s research topics have included sustainable resource management, social impact assessment, comparative mining policy, Finnish environmental policy in the EU, and sustainable transport and urban policy.

University teacher in environmental policy and as a project researcher, University of Eastern Finland

Jukka Sihvonen works as a university teacher in environmental policy and as a project researcher at the University of Eastern Finland. His research work has focused on questions of local development in relation to community, regional, and environmental planning and in sociological mining research projects. The research has primarily focused on the interaction between different institutions and local actors. Jukka has been involved in putting together the transport and sharing economy section.

Assistant Professor, Sustainability Science, LUT University, Lahti Unit

Villes research focuses particularly on transport and how the energy consumption required for transport could be reduced, and also on how this required energy could be produced sustainably. He is also involved in circular economy projects.

Yksikkö:
